Family & Couples Therapy

This intensive program of 126 hours follows an incremental training protocol that is divided into two phases, covering the primary theories of Family and Couples Therapy within the framework of RGT.

A couple system can be defined as consisting of two people, who both bring the uniqueness and intricacy of their personality, values, beliefs, attitudes and cultural experiences into their relationship. These unique field conditions influence their subjective experience of self in relation to the other as well as how they relate as a couple. The couple as a unit, especially so in India, is rooted within their families and the traditions of their community. Working with a couple or family requires knowledge of different theories of Family Therapy (FT), a profound awareness of one’s own family systems and an understanding of deeper complexities that culture brings in that can be integrated with Western theories.

Murray Bowens Systems

This workshop is of 18-hour duration across three days that aims to help counselors and mental health practitioners to understand Murray Bowens Systems FT and its application to the Indian context. The early pioneers in FT came to the understanding that a patient’s progress in therapy was often influenced by the relationship within the family unit. In India, family therapy has gained much acceptance and momentum because of its cultural appeal as well as the extent of research that has been taking place in the last two decades on its effectiveness in India. This workshop also provides an opportunity for the participants and faculty to decide if they resonate with IORT philosophy and would like to continue with the ongoing training in FCT.
