Training for Supervisors

Supervisory Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Supervision is often practiced by senior therapists’ / academicians / teachers. However, at times there is a risk of dilution of boundaries between the role of a supervisor / teacher / therapist. Conceivably stemming from insufficient or no training in supervisory skills and competency. As the number of beginner therapists increases, there is an urgent requirement for experienced therapists who are trained in supervision skills. This is aimed to ensure that the primary stakeholders of therapy receive services that are competent while facilitating the professional confidence and skills of a beginner practitioner.

This training offers a 72 hours training program across six months to equip therapists with supervisory knowledge, skills and competencies.

Eligibility is only for mental health practitioners’ who have been working in the field for a minimum of five years and have been in supervision and personal therapy for a minimum of 150 hours. Prior training with IORT would be an added advantage.

Program Objectives

Acquiring knowledge through readings of specifically selected academic articles and book chapters and theory classes to develop supervisory skills.

Practicing with peers to develop supervision competency under a safe environment.

Supervision skills and competency acquisition over time through meta supervision offered by the trainer.

Training Methodology

All IORT training programs are marked by an experiential and expressive art methodology to support the development of awareness, knowledge, skills and competency. The theoretical inputs are interspersed with experiments and activities that are integral to the practice of Gestalt Therapy to facilitate learning by doing. A deep immersion in theoretical knowledge is encouraged and supported through readings, papers and books related to the content of the training. Demonstrations by faculty, live supervision and case discussions will be held to develop skills and competencies in working relationally.
